Deborah Matlack began her art career with four years’ attendance at The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. She studied in Europe, the Art Students’ League, and has continued her education with classes and workshops on both coasts, moving to California in 1990. Discovering pastel in 1993, she has been rewarded with many prizes for her paintings. These include six Best of Show.

She has earned Signature status in the Pastel Society of America, Northwest Pastel Society, Sierra Pastel Society and Pastel Society of the West Coast (PSWC) and Distinguished Pastellist status in PSWC. Her work was featured in American Artist (April 2005). Although pastel is her principal medium and portrait her preferred subject, she also works in oil, charcoal, and terra cotta; on figures, landscape, interiors, animals, and still life.
